London Arts Residential 2017
The annual Arts pilgrimage to London took place in March 2017, as not one, but two coaches made the journey down to the Big Smoke.
Over 70 staff and students from Springwell journeyed down the M1 to enjoy a cultural extravaganza. After enjoying a sight-seeing tour, students settled down to a feast at Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Shack in Leicester Square and found out that life is, indeed, like a box of chocolates…
We then soaked in the amazing visual spectacle that is the stage version of Disney’s Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre in Covent Garden. The stunning blend of African dancing, amazing puppetry and stunning music from Elton John and Tim Rice made for an unforgettable evening.
After an overnight stay at Heathrow, students then experienced the Tate Modern and lunch on the banks of the River Thames, followed by a matinee performance of Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time. Based on the brilliant novel by Mark Haddon and adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens, the National Theatre production was a visually stunning treat shedding light on Asperger’s syndrome and exploring what really did happen to Wellington the dog.
Staff and students arrive back late on day two, tired but happy. Roll on next year!
